Smut Sells

I just stumbled across this on the American Apparel Daily Update Blog. A picture of said dress is seen to the right:

In the mailbox this morning:

I bought this dress and was about to go to a strip club with my boyfriend and his friend but I looked so hot we had a 3some and never made it to the club and i’m attributing it entirely to this dress!!! It is amazing!!!!

They just basically admitted to being soft-core pron peddlers, and they’re already moving along to using smut to sell. This is saying people who buy our clothes don’t just get laid because of them, but in a way that’s worth writing about. What’s this country coming to? Well, at least its not false advertising, which is more than you can say for most Presidential administrations. Maybe Bukowski will finally quit the post office for a copy writing gig on Madison Ave.

It gets better, though. On the page where you can order that dress, there’s a thumbnail. It leads to this page, featuring the item showcased at left. This isn’t using sex to sell. This is giving it away for free, and people will always come back to where they once got a handout. That’s some pretty powerful marketing psychology. I wish I’d thought of it first, but since I didn’t, I’m going to call it perverse and wrong.
